Cotswold Market Garden is helping to rebuild local food economies

We believe that changing the way we produce and distribute food is fundamental to solving the world’s most pressing social and ecological problems.

About Cotswold Market Garden

Cotswold Market Garden was founded in 2019 as a partnership between career-changer, James Butterworth, and Jonty and Mel Brunyee of Conygree Farm.

Our mission is to grow delicious, seasonal, organic vegetables that are eaten fresh within 10 miles of the farm. This way we can do our bit to build a truly local and more sustainable food system.

The market garden occupies a 2.5 acre site at Conygree Farm, an organic and regenerative farm on the National Trust Sherborne Park Estate (www.conygreefarm.co.uk). Throughout the year we grow around 60 types of vegetables and over 150 varieties using only hand tools and following 'no-dig'/'no-till' principles. Although labour intensive, this allows us to maximise the amount of food that can be grown on a small area and helps support more people working on the land.

Fair prices for farmers and artisan food producers is vital

We pay our suppliers at least 50% of the retail value for any products we buy in, and when dealing with wholesalers, we check to make sure they pay fair prices to their growers.

The benefits of buying local

Local food supports local economies. Food grown in the local community supports local jobs and encourages variety in our diets. It also requires less transportation, so it's fresher and has a smaller environmental footprint.
